When escaping to Florida for vacation many go to the family-filled amusement parks and beaches that are packed with noise and stressful vibes. While others think that Florida resorts can’t be serene and off the beaten trail. If you haven’t visited a resort that brings 15 million years of prehistoric beauty to your eyes to fall upon the celestial sky at night and towering sand dunes by day, then it’s time to visit a different kind of resort – Streamsong Resort, located in Bowling Green – Central Florida. Alberto Alfonso, A.I.A., Architect designed this modern resort and clubhouse and paired with legendary golf course designers: Ben Crenshaw, Bill Coore, and Tom Doak to create golf courses and a resort/spa that will leave you breathless and forgetting why you ever lived in the hustle and bustle of your native city. Take a peek into the world where nature is still king and is awaiting you just outside of Tampa, Florida.
Prehistoric beginnings at Streamsong Resort Central Florida is known for its flat lands and swampy regions, but Streamsong sits on 16,000 acres of land in which 15 million years ago was once submerged under water. The marine life that inhabited these waters settled into sediment that created the phosphates rock deposits that were then mined in the 19th century. Through the mining of these essential phosphates for crops formed 100-foot high dunes and gorgeous natural lakes.
This land is where Architect, Alberto Alfonso found a rhythm, a story, and a rich history that is expressed in his contemporary architecture at Streamsong. The resort grounds are composed of a 12-guest room golf clubhouse, a 216-guest room lakeside Lodge, a full service Acquapietra Spa, 2 golf courses and dining and amenities for nature and relaxing enthusiasts – Streamsong’s rich beginnings all derive from the natural resources in this gorgeous setting. Freshome visits Streamsong & Alberto Alfonso – Architect I was fortunate to be invited to this gem in central Florida that is full of natural wildlife, luxurious amenities and hear how the design process evolved through the architect himself, Alberto Alfonso. Due to his unique design style and connection to the natural landscape Streamsong won 2nd Place Golf, Inc’s – “Clubhouse of the Year” award, and both the clubhouse and lodge won Florida AIA Design Awards of Excellence. Just recently Streamsong was featured in June, 2014 – “Interior Design” magazine, Hospitality section. In the magazine’s feature “World Domination” is befitting of this majestic architectural experience.
“Concrete columns that lift this hotel off the ground pay homage to the petrified stumps bearing witness to the region’s primeval landscape.” –Interior Design Magazine See how Streamsong was inspired through nature – Video Architecture and natural finishes harmonize in fabulous guest rooms Each guest room is beautifully appointed with hand painted artwork from Alberto himself, while movable louvers at the windows allows guests to control daylighting to suit their needs. Subtle details such as exposed concrete structure marry with the rich wood and natural textiles to give each guest a view from the ‘top of the mountain’.

Exterior details gives a rhythm that is reflected through the architecture What an experience it was to walk around with Alberto Alfonso to hear how the structure, architectural design, and rhythmic details from the natural landscape all combined into this ultimate destination to get away from the world. Metaphors such as the “Leaf Lobby” and the structure of the building reminding him of a leaf on a pond are just a few of the “glimpses” into Alfonso’s mind that you can feel in every inch of the resort. Fibonacci sequence: Nature meets design The Fibonacci sequence (a series of numbers in which each number ( Fibonacci number ) is the sum of the two preceding numbers. The simplest is the series 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc.) of the yellow louvers on the exterior of the building. If you’re not familiar with this sequence: Fibonacci numbers are of interest to biologists and physicists because they are frequently observed in various natural objects and phenomena. The branching patterns in trees and leaves, for example, and the distribution of seeds in a raspberry are based on Fibonacci numbers. – Whatis.com These natural inclusions of Alberto Alfonso’s design adds a organic appeal to the atmosphere and the experience. The yellow louvers give a visual connection to the building and it’s surroundings, while keeping in harmony with the rhythm of the architecture.
